Let's end the debate now. Kentucky is part of the South. As a mixed-race Black kid growing up there, I quickly became familiar with being different. When my parents noticed this, they began teaching me to value differences by surrounding me with like-minded family and friends to help nurture those lessons. I would sit, enthralled, as I listened to their stories of how they started local chapters of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, staged sit-ins to fight segregation at the downtown lunch counters and I marveled at hearing them recount the songs sang and speeches they heard at the 1963 March on Washington. This is where my passion to help build and support movements for justice was born.And the work all started when I was 10:- I canvassed neighborhoods and made campaign cold calls for local leaders.- I facilitated workshops on race, power, ethnicity, culture, inclusion and diversity.*- I developed artists to use their work as a tool for change.*- I also sing, but that's for another LinkedIn profile. *I should note for these, I was not 10.Fast forward to now, I realize how much my passions impact and shape the opportunities I look for in my career. At Apple I have been able to lead the expansion of Black@Apple in the New York Market. Being able to work closely and collaboratively with other resource groups allowed me to identify the unique perspectives I can bring to DEI roles and recruiting programs. In my current role as a Diversity Recruiting Program Manager I take pride in creating experiences that will allow candidates to feel seen and heard regardless of their background or abilities. Not only do I consult and strategize these events with multiple recruiters, but I am able to do that on a level that reaches across North America.
