He presented at the public unveiling of the 64-bit ARMv8 Architecture, at the announcement of the first 64-bit ARM chip implementation (and was involved in the bring-up of this and other ARMv8 silicon), and gave the world's first ever demonstration of a general purpose OS running on real 64-bit ARM silicon. He even once pedal powered an ARM server running a live demo to showcase low energy Cloud and Enterprise Arm-Powered solutions in action.Jon also lead the technical committee of the Linaro Enterprise Group, collaborating with other Operating System vendors, and worked on additional technical standardization for the ARM Architecture, especially in relation to servers (he was a lead author on both the ARM Server Base System Architecture and ARM Server Base Boot Requirements specifications). In addition, Jon works with early stage ARMv8 pre-and-post silicon implementations and has been involved in diagnostics and debugging activities to isolate and correct issues that affect early tape-outs of modern SoC designs. He has also assisted in the design of validation and verification tooling for Arm servers.

(Resonance Instruments was acquired by Oxford Instruments)Jon remained with the company following acquisition to complete the Linux based Xilinx Virtex II Pro FPGA platform running within the "MQC" product. The (renamed) "MQC" platform was productized by Oxford Instruments and had a successful life in various applications.
Jon was the sole Linux engineer and worked with the SoC designer to build a robust embedded Linux platform based upon one of the first ports of Linux to the Xilinx Virtex II Pro FPGA. Jon wrote the bootloader for this platform, ported the kernel to the custom PowerPC 405-based SoC design, and built the userspace Operating System which was used by another engineer to develop additional real time scientific software. Jon later (literally) (co)write the book on Building Embedded Linux Systems (O'Reilly). The "RIQC" (Resonance Instruments QC) platform was acquired by Oxford Instruments as part of their acquisition of Resonance.
