Founding member of the Infrastructure and Architectural engineering team, I worked with business units and technical teams to understand their needs and design the technology elements of projects to fulfill their needs. Technical design included all operating systems, load balancers, storage, replication, and virtualization technologies. To exploit these technologies I frequently worked with them in our Lab environment and worked with operational teams on implementation and 3rd level support. One focus area was thin provisioned storage and virtualization. We tested and deployed XEN servers and VMware 3.5 and eventually Vsphere 4.0. KVM testing was underway when the team was disbanded.

My team and I were responsible for implementing a new pSeries farm of p570 servers in 4 datacenters including a datacenter move from our existing aging datacenters to a new facility. We also migrated most applications off our Fujitsu Solaris servers and leveraged IBM’s VIO technology, along with moving to a higher speed SAN solution. While in this role I negotiated several multimillion dollar deals with IBM, for the acquisition of new hardware, software, and support agreements. We also began large scale deployments of RHEL 5 systems replacing older SUN hardware. These moves saved significant space, heating, and cooling in our 3rd party datacenter – again reducing hosting costs significantly.
