Architect of the ZendeskOS org. We build software and services to support the other engineering teams at Zendesk.I've focused mostly on deployment, orchestration, and containers. I've led the team that built an internal PaaS on Kubernetes, and helped migrate Zendesk to cloud providers.

I oversaw software development at OkCupid Labs, in San Francisco.We were an engineer-driven organization that created experimental products designed to connect people. We worked in small teams, iterated fast, and shipped quickly. We mostly did Ruby on Rails and iOS development, but used a broad spectrum of technologies.I worked as an individual contributor, then an engineering manager, and after a year was offered the position of CTO.

Formed and led the API team, which is responsible for the core business logic of Zoosk. Designed and implemented RESTful APIs used by web, mobile, and desktop clients, on a LAMP server stack. Managed 6 engineers who were responsible for data model design, API implementation, and documentation of all features of the Zoosk romantic social network. Leveraged MySQL, Memcache, Thrift, RabbitMQ, Hadoop/Hive, and other server technologies.Designed and implemented financial reconciliation system, which tracked and reported on all customer transactions. Collaborated with client teams on design and implementation of dozens of API endpoints. Moved server systems from monolithic web app to service-oriented architecture. Worked with Product Management on scheduling, feature prioritization, and development roadmap.(Note that I was a regular software engineer for the first 9 months of my time at Zoosk, and then promoted to a lead position.)

Work as a freelance programmer, specializing in development of database-driven web applications. Technologies used include PHP, Java, databases (MySQL, Postgres, MS SQL), C, and C++.The projects I took on were for small companies, often inheriting legacy systems and taking responsibility for their maintenance, as well as new features. I was usually the only "software guy" working for the company, and therefore responsible for server maintenance, installing/updating software packages, deploying & troubleshooting live systems, etc.

Responsible for managing projects for Engineering Team of 30+ people. Created schedules for each project that occurred, tracked progress of deliverables, and coordinated efforts among multiple groups. Reported to senior staff of organization, giving them weekly updates on the status of all engineering projects in the organization.

User Interface engineer for the Ingrian DataSecure platform.I am responsible for feature development and maintenance of a web-based user interface, written in C++ running on a Linux environment. I spec'ed out and implemented new features, including the data migration tool used for encrypting sensitive information in clients' databases.

Responsible for operational details of the Arete Center for Excellence, a company which puts on transformational coursework and training.

Worked as a contractor to create and update MySQL-driven PHP sites. Customers included ETR (http://www.etr.org) which manages programs for the federal government like http://nsrc.etr.org.

Worked on Macromedia Generator, a server-based dynamic flash generation product. Developed features, implemented, and debugged code on Windows, Solaris, and Linux platforms. Worked with a small team of dedicated engineers.

I was a TA and course developer for several courses, mostly Intro to Computer Science courses.I developed lecture slides, assignments, and support code. I held office hours, graded assignments, ran sections and help sessions, and occasionally lectured. As a Head TA, I organized and led a team of 8 to 20 other TAs, acting as facilitator and manager.I learned tons, and had a lot of fun, but didn't sleep much.
