It started back in high school when I enrolled in the Interior Design class elective. I was already active in art classes, choir, and all of the wood shop classes that the high school provided. Since young I'd had always been a creative and artsy child and it truly was something I was good at and enjoyed. I remember back in 4th grade drawing floor plans with my best friends, at the time, on our dream homes. So when there was the opportunity presented to me to take a design class in high school, I knew it was worth investigating. The big project in this class was selecting the lighting fixtures for the Viking House and presenting them to the head wood shop teacher.What is the Viking House? The Viking House is a crew of 15-17 junior and seniors at FGHS who build a new craftsman styled home from foundation up. Every year the high school builds a home and then does a weekend long open house. Each year this house is sold and the profit goes back into the program for the following years house. In the design class we were able to go to a lighting showroom as a field trip and make our selections where we then each put a display board together. I was a sophomore at this time and discovered a new passion. I then proceeded to work towards being on the Viking House my senior year, which I achieved.Between the design elective and the Viking House I made the decision to continue my education in Residential Interior Design by enrolling at Oregon State University. I transferred after 4 terms to Portland Community College where I graduated with my Interior Design degree and also a one-year-certificate in Kitchen and Bath Design. One month after graduation I became a color consultant at Sherwin Williams and 3 months after graduation I was hired as the Interior Designer and Draftsman at Kopp Construction which I now am a full time employee at. It's been 8 years now that I have invested in the industry and I plan on continuing my career path in Residential Interior Designer.
