I joined Syracuse University's Newhouse School in 2007 as the general manager of the Collaborative Media Room and have since been promoted to faculty as a Professor of Practice for Magazine, News & Digital Journalism. Recently, I was tapped as the school's Executive Editor and charged with building media industry partnerships and opportunities for our students.I teach the Digital News and Innovation course that focuses on current industry issues, social media, data journalism and multimedia storytelling. Also, I serve as executive producer for TheNewsHouse.com, a nationally recognized digital service for the SU community produced and managed by a student team as part of my Digital News Leadership course. In recent years, I've led multiple award-winning school-wide reporting projects for student journalists to explore topics such as disinformation and scams, Title IX, U.S.-Canada relations, marijuana legalization and social and inequity issues in central New York.I'm part of the teaching team for the school's online master's program, Communications@Syracuse, having taught Introduction to Digital Communications along with developing and teaching the Social Media for Communicators course.Prior to Newhouse, I was the online content director for PalmBeachPost.com, where I spent 11 years leading and helping create and manage award-winning digital products for the newsroom and online departments.Currently, I'm working toward a master's degree in geography for which my research focuses on understanding the spatial relationships between media companies and consumers.
