Throughout my bachelor's degree in geology I took a keen interest into the overlap of geology and civil engineering and how much they can influence each other. I took the great opportunity to work as an environmental consultant in the contaminated lands field. I gained valuable experience over 2016 and 2017 running site investigations for groundwater and soil contamination using various ground penetrating methods, report writing and site management. I also worked on many projects that required site investigations for both contaminated land and geotechnical assessments. In 2018 I then pursued a masters in civil engineering specializing in geotechnical engineering at a top South African university. The two year course was challenging but equipped me with geotechnical investigation and design methodology with all design methods within the Eurocode structure/approach. I completed my thesis with a first class pass and also authored a journal article (based off my thesis research) published in an international journal called Geothermics.
