I have been involved with the supporting of existing systems and the development of new software as a part of a large team in the Parliament.Primarily working with the Microsoft stack of technologies: WCF, WebAPI, ASP.Net MVC, SQL Server and Powershell but also incorporating client-side frameworks such as Bootstrap, jQuery and AngularJS.

I moved to Morins from Gilsland after the summer of 2004 to take on the role of general labourer. Morins was asmall building firm made up of around a dozen staff--5 bricklayers/stonemasons, 3 joiners, 2 labourers ( myself included ), 1 quantity surveyor and a general manager.I worked as a labourer for about a year before being offered a stonemasonry apprenticeship.While labouring my main duties were:-Collecting materials from merchants-Mixing concrete/mortar-Digging foundations-Moving materials around on site-Demolish old structuresOnce I had began my apprenticeship I would learn how to:-Re-point stone walls-Dress stone-Build walls with brick/block/stone( random rubble and square-cut )-Lay foundations-Lay solums-Lay slabs-Work with Acro props-Set up scaffolding-Setting of new buildsAs this was a small company I had to learn other skills such as:-Installing guttering-Repairing gutters-Repairing roofs-Laying roof tiles-Unblocking drains-Install new drainage systems-Applying mastics-Sweeping chimneysA lot of the jobs I was a part of at Morins involved working in small teams so working together was paramount.

North Berwick

I worked at Gilsland caravan park for a couple of years on a full-time basis. I worked with one other groundsman and took on a wide variety of tasks. It was a very enjoyable job due to the fact that every day you were doing something different. There were fundamental tasks that were carried out regularly and they were:-Cutting Grass-Cleaning the toilet/shower block-Moving caravans (of the static variety)-Trimming bushes-Assisting visitors to the parkOther tasks that I was involved in were:-Laying slabs-Spraying weedkiller-Putting up fences-Rounding up sheep for treatment (My boss owned land around North Berwick Law and kept sheep there)-Drilling holes for lamposts-Laying concrete foundations-Clearing leaves from the road/paths for collectionFor me, this was an invaluable experience. I began to get used to working with tools and working under such a skilled colleague taught me a great deal about practical work.

North Berwick & Edinburgh

I started work at Safeway, North Berwick when I was still at high school aged 16 and I stayed with the company until I was 21. Over that period I held several roles including: replenishing ambient and dairy/produce stock, waste management, stock counting, ordering and merchandising.My responsibilities included:-Replenishing stock -Rotating stock to minimise waste-Counting stock-Dealing with spoilage stock-Checking the dates of products to ensure there were none out of date-Ordering bread and milk-Receiving deliveries-Assisting customers-Implementing new section plans-Working night-shift-Reducing the price of productsThis was a great experience as the roles were varied and involved working in a team, problem-solving, planning ahead and also being left to work on my own initiative. It was also my first opportunity to be working with the public on a daily basis.
