At Bristol I was a lead developer on the FAMOUS numerical climate modelling system, which is a joint collaboration between the Universities of Bristol, Exeter and Reading as well as the Met Office Hadley Centre, where I myself used to work.After my initial two year contract at the University, myself and my line manager secured a further three year contract to continue our work.I travelled regularly to Norway to brief our private-sector funders on our progress and regularly attended numerous national and international meetings and conferences.In January 2013 I was a visiting scholar at MIT in Boston and in September 2014 I was awarded the Rupert Ford Memorial prize by the Royal Meteorological Society. This is a travel award for early career researchers to enable them to spend time visiting researchers in other countries to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange. I have a particular interest in colour perception and science communication in general and published a Communication in Nature in 2014 on the use of rainbow colour scales. This study was led by Doug McNeall at the Met Office.

At Eunomia I worked on many varied projects concerning the company's core themes of waste management, low carbon energy, resource efficiency and climate change adaptation.The two main projects that I undertook were(1) Impact assessment and economic modelling of the effects of the proposed English Marine Planning System on behalf of the UK government Department for Food and Rural Affairs.(2) The economic and social benefits of reuse (as opposed to recycling or disposal) on behalf of the Waste and Resources Action Programme, WRAP (a not-for-profit company backed by UK government funding).Both of the these major projects involved a large amounts of stakeholder engagement, report writing, and travel to central government departments

At the Met Office I was a member of the Climate Model Development and Evaluation team and also the team studying 'climate sensitivity' (the change to the Earth's temperature upon a doubling of CO2). I published a paper in the journal Environmental Research Letters on changes to rainfall under climate change, undertook educational outreach work for the Met Office (e.g. school video conferences) and was part of the team working on the Met Office's submission to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Fifth Assessment Report (IPCC AR5), being published in 2013-14.

This was a 3 month sickness cover contract for a collaborator whom I worked with during my PhD. This also involved running Finite Element codes (as in my PhD) but instead studying 'thin film' inorganic solar cells.
