I head up the Game Science and Machine Learning team at Activision Publishing. In this role, I lead a team of data scientists, economists, and ML engineers, each of whom focused on applying machine learning, data science, and other advanced analytical methodologies to improve our business, our games, and (most importantly) our player experience.I have been part of the video games industry since 2017 and have credits on 15+ games. I'm incredibly lucky to have been involved with some of the biggest franchises in the world, including Call of Duty, NBA 2K, and Borderlands, and have gained extensive experience working in the live services realm, including using data science to optimize monetization, engagement, retention, and gameplay. I have also consulted with a number of studios on live services best practices, helping producers and designers determine what experience works best for their players, and how to use data to improve their titles. Before I got into video games, I worked at Sandia National Laboratories, working on national security projects that I can't talk about for another 70 years or so. Before entering the workforce, I received my Ph.D. in statistics from Rice University in 2011, with a focus on statistical computing and robust estimation.
