My unique role at The Gateway Academy was to run both the computer system alongside the Network Manager as well as manage the Academies ‘Management Information System’ which was essentially a large database with a front end and contained key academic and attendance data that was utilised heavily for performance management and monitoring.Key aspects of this role were:Being responsible for managing and maintaining dozens of servers & hundreds of desktops, tablets and laptops to support the academies some 300+ staff and 1500+ students across multiple sites in the Essex area.Working with key ‘power users’ to ensure their needs were met regarding the academies M.I.SSupporting staff and students with general computer related trouble shooting issuesContinuous management of a large Windows based network with updates prepared and delivered via GPO’s and VB/batch scriptsCapacity monitoring of network infrastructure including site to site fibre and WiFi links

Following the relocation of the ICT Coordinator at Abbots Hall Primary School in Stanford-le-Hope to Shaw Primary in South Ockedon, I was head hunted to move too.My role as the sole IT Technician, was to manage the schools network and supports the staff and students with any IT related matters.

Answerable to the ICT Coordinator, my post as the sole IT Technician of the school, was to handle anything IT related in order to allow the delivery of IT classes.During my time at Abbots Hall, I was able to render many third party support contracts unnecessary which saved the school a lot of money. I also broke the school away from the habit of procuring hardware and software via the LEA approved vendor who were over charging, this enabled the ICT co-ordinator to stretch a very limited budget further.
