Created manufacturing function for internal start-up within Marconi Applied Technologies, achieved ISO9001 certification and optical amplifier sales of $1m/month within 3 months. Developed team, introduced lean-manufacturing techniques and a custom Manufacturing Execution System to manage product variety with a minimum batch size of 1. Championed successful 6-sigma yield improvement projects. Project managed transfer of production to Bookham Technologies upon sale of business in 2002.

Leadership of all manufacturing teams within Lincoln factory, satellite site of Marconi Applied Technology (now E2V), reporting directly to Chelmsford. Teams produced specialised microwave products for government, marine and automotive customer base. Introduced modern manufacturing techniques and new leadership style to traditional environment.

As Production Engineering Manager, led a team of production and test engineers. Introduced process and test automation, transferred production of new products from Germany to the UK, and from the UK to a contract manufacturer in China.As Production Manager ran a team of 150 staff working 24/5 manufacturing fire alarm products. Reorganised production teams to allow true lean manufacturing, giving improved efficiency and quality. Developed team leaders and gave them the tools to manage their areas. Key role in site achievement of 'World Class Manufacturing' award.As Production Engineer, project managed introduction of automated SMT assembly to a traditional hand-assembly environment, led the newly formed team.
