Dr. Jon Penn Junejo, DNP-PMHNP-BC is a board certified advanced practice provider specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatry and mental health conditions in adults. Dr. Penn is equipped to perform all psychiatry services including diagnostic mental health evaluations; prescription and dosage titration of all psychiatric medications; and psychotherapy modalities which include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), supportive and dynamic talk therapy, brief psychoanalytic therapy and existential therapy. He is presently training towards receiving ketamine therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) certifications based on their efficacy in managing treatment-resistant depression. His research interests focus on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicide prevention among veterans.Dr. Penn completed his advanced provider training in the psychiatry and mental health specialization from Columbia University Medical Center, and the New York State Psychiatry Institute (NYSPI) in Manhattan/Washington Heights where he rotated through inpatient, research and outpatient modalities of psychiatry and psychotherapy modalities. Dr. Penn became globally-renowned as a film interviewer and talk show host when his podcast, How Did They Get There, charted in several countries, and attracted guests which included the most impactful filmmakers of all time. He is passionate about the interplay between film and psychiatry, and has written several screenplays, poems and short stories. He aims to create cinematic pieces alongside his psychiatry practice, and delve deeper into the paradigmatic relationship between the two platforms.Prior to completing his doctorate at Columbia, Dr. Penn earned master’s degrees from Duke University and Saint Louis University, and his B.Sc degree from the University of Utah. He worked as a revenue strategy analyst at the headquarters of DaVita Kidney Care; real estate executive; and community organizer prior to becoming a clinician.Prior to his medical training, Jon earned master’s degrees from Duke University and Saint Louis University, and his B.Sc degree from the University of Utah. He worked as a Fortune 500 healthcare strategy analyst; real estate executive; and community organizer prior to training towards becoming a clinician.
