Each project reflects the unique characteristics of the intended function, culture and people who will inhabit or work there.Architecture + EnvironmentBuildings consume more energy (49%), emit more greenhouse gasses (47%) and utilize more electricity (76%) than any other sector in the United States according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration and it is worse globally. The good news is that the construction industry and building owners are increasingly embracing the long term economic and environmental benefits of reducing the energy consumption of buildings, utilizing readily available renewable energy and designing with natural, non-toxic, green and regional materials that can significantly reduce the life cycle costs and health of the building and its environment. I believe better designed buildings that complement our environment and enhance our community provide places that give people better, brighter, healthier spaces to live, work, learn and play.Architecture + TechnologyCollaboration, coordination and communication between architects, engineers, contractors and owners are vital to the success of a project. New building information modeling tools like Revit allow us to model all a buildings systems in 3 dimensions as well as perform energy modeling in order to fine tune all systems during design. The resulting design is more efficient and constructability conflicts are solved before they become expensive change orders.
