Jan 2003 - Apr 2004

Senior Analyst / Programmer

Sanderson It Systems Ltd

Analysing, designing, developing, implementing, installing, training and supporting College Management Information Systems for a large, successful, international software house. In charge of a small, highly skilled team (5 people), I developed a number of applications for use within Colleges. These applications were designed to be sold stand-alone or to “plug in” to the rest of the College MIS system. Developing these products involved organising user group meetings with a number of Colleges, designing the modules and returning to the users to check functionality issues (prototyping). Visual Basic 5 was then used to implement each design. Colleges use different databases, therefore applications need the ability to communicate between Access 97, Ingres and SQL server dynamically and cope with functional differences within each database (dates etc). Once the applications were ready for release, I was responsible for organising the installation of the applications at numerous Colleges. In addition to this main role, I also took part in the general support of other older character based applications. This involved database housekeeping on an Ingres database, solving ODBC connection problems and general help desk responsibilities. This support came in the form of telephone conversations, email or remote support.I was also given the responsibility of developing a piece of software to run on a Windows CE machine for another team within Sanderson. This involved downloading data from a server onto a handheld, developing software so that users could enter data into the handheld, and then extracting the data from the handheld into the database on the server. This was all done with applications that I had written in Visual Basic and Embedded Visual Basic.
