My primary focus has been on identifying and addressing critical areas of the application and operations in an effort to increase stability. However, monitoring and mining continues to be a significant piece of my contributions at ADP. Finally, testing automation and development also plays a critical role for me. I've been a Splunk admin and user since 2008.+ Member of a specialized team to track down areas of the application and/or application hosting that compromise stability or performance. My primary functions here are initial identification, root cause discovery, and triage/short term fix to hold over until a proper bug fix can be applied.+ Key part of team that pushed the past VM effort to new heights. We now stand at 200 VMs running on 4 hosts, significantly reducing server count, power and cooling requirements, and management overhead.+ Author of many "glue" utilities, bridging the gaps between both internal software and COTS packages. Ruby, C#, Java and python have all been used, dependent on the requirements.

Most of my work load is recognizing, designing, and deploying monitors to help maintain our SLAs and collect business intel. Accuracy and fast response time, either via human interaction or automated correction, are vital. I was lead for a team of roughly 10 other System/Software Engineers. + Founded VCNet, grew to over 5,000 customers in 7+ years' time+ Customer base included corporations, small businesses, schools and individuals; 400 DSL accounts, 1100 dial-ups, 30 T1s, 700 web sites, and roughly 5000 email accounts+ Established reputation as high quality service provider with responsive customer support, resulting in 95% of VCNet's customer base coming from client referrals.+ Met our goal to become first ISP in Ventura Country to support multiple connections using BGPCNET's ISP quality survey put VCNet 4th in the nation in 1998+ Primary technical manager, architect, and implementer of all service installations and upgrades+ Designed, installed and maintained custom email servers, web servers, firewalls, and networks for customers+ Created custom email filter which saved email users from 80% of spam+ Successfully secured VCNet's network and servers for its entire time in business-- never had a security breach+ Extensive use of perl, PHP, Java and C to create greater efficiencies which reduced operating costs+ VCNet was pursued by larger ISP for several years due to reputation and customer base-- the sale was finalized in August 2002.
