RSA is a global general insurer, operating in 30 countries with premiums of £8.7billion. Based in the corporate communications team, I led the media relations activity for the Group and its UK businesses. This involved enhancing and protecting the corporate reputation of the Group and its consumer brand MORE TH>N. I set the B2B and B2C media relations strategies and was responsible for issues management. I also directed the Group's digital content strategy encompassing the corporate website and all social media channels.During this time I provided executive counsel and media handling for a number of high profile issues including:- 12 stock exchange announcements including three profit warnings;- the suspension of three members of the Irish executive team following the discovery of multi-million pound financial irregularaties;- the resignation of the Group CEO;- a global strategic business review and a £775m rights issue, and - the disposal of businesses in eight overseas markets.

Working in the corporate communications team at RSA Insurance I established the Group's first global thought leadership programmes working across media relations, public affairs and corporate responsibility activity. I was also responsible for developing and implementing the Group's digital communications strategy encompassing the corporate website and all social media channels.In this role I developed RSA's first multi-national road safety campaign, Fit to Drive, including devising and implementing the PR strategy, commissioning academic research and undertaking all lobbying activity in Westminster, Edinburgh and Brussels.I also wrote whitepapers and think pieces to support RSA's global partnership with WWF. The content I created was used for media relations, marketing and business development purposes with insurance brokers and potential customers.In addition I led the development of RSA's first global social media strategy encompassing recruitment, customer service, marketing, corporate communications, communities and collaboration. Under my leadership RSA ranked number one for use of LinkedIn in the How Social is the FTSE100 Index.

I headed up the UK External Communications Team. Managing a team of eight, my remit covered media relations, public affairs and corporate responsibility for RSA's UK business. Under my leadership the team won the PR Week Award for Private Sector Department of the Year (2009)

During this time I led the newly merged Group and UK External Communications teams encompassing media relations (Corporate, B2B & B2C), public affairs and corporate responsibility. This role involved strategic communications planning, issues management and providing senior level counsel to the Group CEO and other members of the executive board. I managed a team of 14 and a budget of £4.6m, achieving an annual saving of £500k.

In this role I was responsible for creating and managing the delivery of the media relations strategy for MORE TH>N, the direct financial services arm of RSA in the UK. I built the profile of the brand amongst personal finance journalists from zero to top three and led projects that won the Financial Services Forum Award for Most Effective Campaign (2004) and PR Week Award for Best Use of Broadcast (2001).
