About Jon Stelman
Conscientious, collaborative, and versatile data expert with experience deeply rooted in education. Passionate about delivering data-driven insights and empowering others to do the same. ~~~I am a Technical Product Manager at Renaissance Learning, where I manage database services and infrastructure, ensure data availability and quality, and empower internal stakeholders from across the organization to make the most of the available data resources. I am a graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University where I completed a M.S. in Learning Analytics. Most of my career has been dedicated to developing learners and learning systems. A lifelong teacher, I began by giving private music lessons in high school, and soon advanced to tutoring and classroom teaching. Curiosity about how to advance educational technology and policy led me to the wonderful world of learning analytics. Since orienting my career toward ed-tech, I have explored such areas as learning models, knowledge inference, content analytics, curriculum development, efficacy of educational products, and equitable and explainable AI. I am always in search of new challenges in education that can be explored using modern analytical methods. Before to my work in ed-tech I worked as a physics teacher at a small suburban NJ high school, teaching physics for 9th – 12th grade students. There I developed the physics curricula, realigning six courses to the NGSS and to the Framework for AP Physics 1 & 2. In addition to work in the classroom, I have tutored in a number of subject areas, and have led STEAM and robotics enrichment courses with two Harlem-based non-profit organizations.
Listed skills include Tutoring, Teaching, Physics, Public Speaking, and 16 others.
