About Jon Stinson
Associate Sustainability Consultant at Ryder Architecture.Jon moved from Armagh [Northern Ireland] to Edinburgh [Scotland] in 2004 to study Architectural Technology at Edinburgh Napier University. Shortly after Graduating in 2007, Jon took up the roll as researcher at Edinburgh Napier University, working within the Scottish Energy Centre, alongside the Building Performance Centre, and Institute for Sustainable Construction. During 2015 Jon completed a Ph.D with a focus on the architectural technology, building performance physics, and behaviour change technology for smart homes.From 2007 to 2020 Jon worked as a research fellow and principal investigator for construction industry-led R&D projects. This work focused on the areas of energy efficiency retrofit, building surveying, sustainable architecture and human factors. Between 2016 and 2020 Jon was module leader for 15 university modules including 'building design and technology', 'architectural technology design studios’, and ‘sustainability’.In October 2020 Jon, with is business partner founded Building Research Solutions, which focuses on bringing sustainability R&D closer to the construction and architectural technology industry. In October 2023 BRS joined Ryder Architecture, heading up Ryder's new sustainability team.At the start of January 2021 Jon took up the roll as Chair for the CIAT Scotland East Region. He stepped down after his term ended in January 2024. I was part of a multidisciplinary team made up of energy and psychology experts from within Edinburgh Napier University, collaborating with experts in industry to monitor the effects of smart energy monitoring systems upon the energy consumption of 65 homes. The report ‘Integrating smart meters into systems for smart homes’ has since been published through the Low Carbon Building Technology Gateway website and has featured in S.TV online news, The Engineer, Inside Housing and Building Products.
