After a promotion from Western Divisional Safety Manager in 2020, my footprint expanded from Alberta & BC to all provinces west of Quebec. As a result, I’ve studied the nuances between provincial OH&S law, as well as municipal bylaws, and federal regulations. I have been responsible for the health & Safety of up to roughly $600M in ongoing construction projects at a time. I’ve developed a completely new Occupational Health & Safety Management System, which has been tested against BC and AB COR auditing systems and validated with a 93% score in Alberta. I effectively coordinated change management from the old system to the new, by training staff and using familiar, intuitive systems. I received security clearance from various provincial and federal entities for construction and bidding purposes. I’ve also investigated all manors of incidents, injuries, near misses, and losses. Over these almost 5 years, I’ve developed strong working relationships with hundreds of contractors across Western Canada & Ontario, as well as with Occupational Health & Safety staff, workers’ compensation boards, and our clients. My contractor management program has effectively managed the HSE performance expectations of our contractors from the tender process, through to end-of-project post-mortem performance reports. My HSE program has reduced our WCB premiums by over 50%, and maximized WCB rebates via the PIR program. As a result of our continuous improvement, our most recent yearly WCB claims costs are reporting 48.98% lower than the industry average, and have been trending downwards for 4 years.I have directly managed a team of HSE Advisors and Safety Reps across Canada. I attend monthly leadership meetings with my managers. I helped write an effective COVID-19 Pandemic Response Plan, and have developed strong relationships with the Human Resources team. Together we have written and analyzed employee engagement surveys, adapted company policy, and trended safety and performance data.

During my time with Mattamy, we built thousands of homes in the Calgary, and Edmonton areas. I was hired as part of a corrective actions plan submitted to Alberta OH&S. Mattamy was earning a reputation for lax safety enforcement, resulting in a high volume of injury incidents in Calgary. Mattamy’s trade partners were habitually violating OH&S Code, and Supervisors were not being held accountable. I was hired to spearhead the safety program, balance the workplace, reduce the volume of incidents, and satisfy all of the OH&S requirements as laid out in the corrective action plan. During my time there, I maintained a record of zero lost-time injuries, resulting in substantially reduced WCB premiums and doubled PIR rebates when I left. I helped develop and implement a new HSE management system. That system earned Mattamy Homes COR status, scoring a 93% in the first external COR audit. I engaged in the peer auditing system with the ACSA and audited others in the construction industry through that system. I wrote and implemented an employee and trade partner incentive program. This program piggybacked off a separate behavioral-based leading indicator program I developed that identified and mitigated over 6500 unsafe conditions, acts, and positive observations a year. These actions were incremental in satisfying OH&S and effectively made the workplaces safer. I maintained a safety budget and kept records of all safety-related documentation from dozens of worksites across Alberta for both COR, performance, and overall HSE improvement purposes. In tandem with Management, we transitioned the safety program from a paper-based program to a digital online system (E-Compliance). I formed and chaired many Joint Health & Safety Committees, and maintained relationships with contractors, OH&S, and clients. I lead all incident investigations and implemented effective controls.

- Worked as a H2S Safety supervisor in northern Canada on multiple upstream drilling operations.- Installed and maintained gas detection and early warning systems such as RAE meshguard and Rig Rat’s.- Delivered safety training to new hires and visitors. - Tested potentially hazardous atmospheres for H2S, LEL, CO, NORMS, oxygen levels and BTEX chemicals.- Conducted sour-gas drills on drilling rigs and helped improve upon response time and man down search methods.- Gave site-specific orientations, and trained visitors in WHIMS and SCBA/SABA refresher training.- Inspected and function tested personal gas monitors, SCBA’s, and SABA’s, supplied-air breathing trailers.- Installed breathing air systems, gas detection sensors, and alarm systems on drilling rigs in preparation for potential sour-gas release.- Maintained lease control and headcount, wrote daily safety meetings.- Worked to monitor and maintain a safe work environment through major blowouts and kicks with gas to the surface.- Worked to maintain the gold standard of industrial hygiene on the job.

- Helped prepare Thomas Insulation for their external COR audit. - Developed and implemented JHAs, SWPs, and SJPs. - Edited Thomas Insulations HSE manual.- Investigated incidents using TapRooT and other conventional methods. - Performed regular site and equipment inspections. - Wrote and conducted tool-box talks and safety meetings in concert with supervision and clients. - Sat on the JHSC, and implemented new ideas to increase overall safety on site. - Responsible for monitoring worksites of up to 800 workers, ensuring safety regulations were being met.- Developed a pre-work warm-up exercise program and implemented it throughout Thomas Insulation to effectively reduce ergonomic-related injuries. - I worked to trend, and interpret leading indicators site-wide, extracting valuable data on how to customize the safety program to address trouble areas. - Was responsible for the safety of many employees resulting in over 151,500 man-hours with no lost-time injuries. - Responsible for orientating newly hired workers and making sure all employees were aware of site-specific hazards.- Facilitated an injury management program of reporting and investigating injury incidents, tracking corrective actions, and placing injured workers in appropriate modified work duty’s during recovery.

- Worked as an apprentice Scaffolder and Insulator.- Spearheaded a new soft-cover removable insulation division and built a successful, comprehensive measure-up system that is still in place today.- Was in charge of editing and operating complex excel databases to estimate insulation/ heat tracing/ blanket packages from various big oil-producing corporations. - Travelled across North America to meet with company Executives and receive training.- Helped maintain the company's safety program. - Trained new employees on blanket measure-up techniques. - Conducted morning safety toolbox talks. - Conducted onsite safety inspections and hazard assessments. - Inspected equipment, personal protective equipment, and heavy machinery. - Conducted in-depth safety meetings in concert with clients, to raise safety awareness among employees. - Worked as a safety man-watch for workers who were required to work in confined spaces. - Wrote JHA’s to ensure all workers exposed to a hazard were aware of detailed safety issues, emergency response programs, MSDS concerns, and environmental issues.

- My experience in the security sector taught me how to de-escalate aggressive and violent situations using persuasive language. Very rarely did I have to resort to physical methods to control tense situations.- Worked in multiple provinces as a registered, licensed Security Officer for multiple firms.- Trained in handcuffing, telescopic baton combat, security systems, mag systems, ground combat, physical screening, and how to properly use metal detectors to find prohibited items. - Worked for the 2010 Olympic Games as a backdoor security screener at the Whistler Sliding Center.- Worked security at large events, stores, banks, night club, and street patrol.
