Business developer, researcher and entrepreneur engaged in ethical digitization - specifically concerning the restrictions technologies can have for the social engagement and autonomy of individuals - contributing to a deeper understanding of the societal impacts of technology in the hopes of creating a level digital playing field.Currently business developer at iO, a blended tech agency committed to sustainable growth and social progress. In this role, I'm responsible for expanding our portfolio and furthering our sustainable ambitions.Previously head of operations at Digi Surfer, a social enterprise focused on digital inclusion and e-waste reduction, where I worked with my team to maximize our social impact and help out those in need. Amongst other things I designed an animation-based course for digital skills that was universally useable for people of all cultural and language backgrounds, opening up avenues of growth for people that do not speak Dutch in the Netherlands.Background:During my university years I started a small company to help senior citizens in my neighbourhood adapt to the digital age and I became a public voice on this matter through social and traditional media (TV, newspaper).I joined the Rathenau Institute because I believe scientific knowledge belongs in the public domain and sharing this knowledge should be equally valued in the scientific community as producing it. In my work for RI I brought together my knowledge of sociological theory and the digital world to come to a deeper understanding of the societal impacts of technology, for the benefit of those that cannot yet enjoy the digital world as much as we can. The focus then was on the energy transition and the opportunities this creates for policy makers to create a competitive and inclusive energy system.After RI I moved to Digi Surfer, where I used my expertise in ethical digitization to make a tangible difference in people's everyday lives. Digi Surfer supplies refurbished corporate laptops to social target groups and organisations that are involved in digital inclusion, poverty reduction and other social goals. I was also frequently consulted by organisations on how to make their projects and systems more accessible.
