About Joost Van Der Loo
Passionate about anything science related, endowed with an eagerness to learn and interested in a wide variety of fields, ranging from natural sciences and philosophy to society, strategy and governance.I'm a master student in Mathematics specializing in Mathematical Physics. My education and research is centered around the mathematical backgrounds of physics, in particular quantum physics and general relativity, the foundations and philosophical backgrounds of thermodynamics and statistical physics and the philosophy of mathematics and physics. Moreover, deploying my management skills developed during my term as assessor of the faculty, I'm currently working as the treasurer of B.O.S., which is the administrative assembly of the five largest student associations (with fraternal/sororal characteristic) of Nijmegen.My passion for mathematics and physics has its foundations in the Profielwerkstuk (pre-university research project) I wrote, encompassing a technical and detailed treatment of the linearized Einstein (wave) equations and its application to the 2015 LIGO gravitational wave detection. Het Wiskunde Overleg is het overkoepelende medezeggenschapsorgaan van het wiskundedepartement van de Universiteit Utrecht en omvat alle voor de studenten van het departement relevante medezeggenschapsactiviteiten. Tijdens mijn jaar als voorzitter zijn wij erin geslaagd eerstejaarsstudenten, die vanwege de coronapandemie geen sociale contacten konden opbouwen, een plek te bieden binnen het departement d.m.v. een bezoldigd studenttutoraatprogramma. Dit werd zeer positief ontvangen en heeft ervoor gezorgd dat eerstejaarsstudenten zich thuis voelden binnen de opleiding.
