Cluster Toetsregels Kunstwerken, successor of the Strength and Loading of Water Defence Structures (SBW) project Kunstwerken, is part of the Dutch research programme WTI 2017 (2011-2016) under the authority of the Dutch Ministry of Public Works. This aims to improve the methods for reviewing the safety of primary water defence structures in the Netherlands.

De CGF Masterclass Grondgedrag is een aanvulling op de CGF-cursussen Grondmechanica en Funderingstechniek (CGF-1 en CGF-2) en gaat dieper in op het geotechnisch gedrag van grond. De opleiding staat onder auspiciën van het Koninklijk Instituut Van Ingenieurs (KIVI), de beroepsvereniging van ingenieurs en techniekstudenten.In de geotechniek staat het materiaal grond centraal, met name het zogenoemde fysisch-mechanisch gedrag van grond: kan de grond een bepaalde belasting dragen en zo ja, hoeveel vervorming laat hij daarbij zien? Dit gedrag is van cruciaal belang voor de voorbereiding, het ontwerp, de uitvoering en de verdere levensduur van projecten in de GWW-sector. Een goed "gevoel" voor de eigenschappen van dit materiaal is daarbij een eerste vereiste. Het zelf uitvoeren van simpele, snelle experimentjes op diverse grondsoorten vormt daarbij het uitgangspunt, van de CGF Masterclass Grondgedrag: een unieke combinatie van grondbeproeving, analyse en discussie van de proefuitkomsten en praktisch-theoretische kennisoverdracht. De Masterclass is daarmee zeer praktisch van aard, waar CGF-1 en CGF-2 juist theoretische opleidingen zijn. Grondgedrag is een cruciaal aspect van de geotechniek; bekend is dat 50% van de faalkosten bij bouwprojecten grond-gerelateerd zijn. Dat het daarbij gaat om aanzienlijke bedragen blijkt uit het feit dat deze faalkosten regelmatig de landelijke media halen. Focus Area Co-leaders of European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP) define the group's topics, organisational structure and meeting frequency. The output of Focus Areas include specific proposals to the ECTP Operational Group (of which they are a member), contributing to the definition of the ECTP Vision, Strategic Research Agenda, Priorities and Joint European Technology Initiatives.The construction sector is a key contributor to the Quality of Life and a sustainable society. For this reason it is absolutely necessary to organise efficient and effective the (European and national) research and development efforts. The objective of the Focus Area Quality of Life within the ECTP is to raise awareness of societal concerns in relation to our construction processes and to promote a new research approach that includes a greater input from the human sciences.Research topics appointed by this Focus Area are:- reducing the environmental impact of the construction sector- mitigation of natural and man-made hazards on built enviroment- improving indoor/outdoor environment (a.o. health, comfort, safety)- more attractive work places (a.o. safety, security)

Validation of joint MPM code for dredging applications, in the context of EU FP7 project MPM-DREDGE (Marie Curie IAPP Action)

The SYMPG of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) consists of 18 selected members: 3 from the 6 regions in the world (Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America, South America). Through SYMPG the ISSMGE President gives students and young members a chance to voice their opinion directly on what would make the ISSMGE more attractive to them in the future.

As part of my Bachelor of Built Environment I followed a traineeship at Visser & Smit Bouw at the construction works of the Direct Sheet Plant of CORUS, IJmuiden. During this internship I worked on the construction and quality control of the foundations (auger piles, large dimension footings) and issues on concrete technology.

As part of my Bachelor of Built Environment I followed an internship at Ballast Nedam Foundation Technology at the Souterain project, The Hague. I worked on the construction and quality control of diaphragm walls, jet-grout arch and soil injections in a densely populated urban area.
