Learned young and always kept doing it, but improving all the time.Ever since childhood I've been active and involved in Scouting. There you learn planning, collaboration, improvising and discovering new things. For me invaluable skills in which discipline whatsoever, from which you can have daily advantage during the rest of your life. Throughout my life, I learned to use this in many situations and this contributed to several successes in the areas of planning, production and logistics.Collaboration is top priority for me, as an individualist you can't succeed in a team. It's the people and their interaction in the team that makes the difference.Planning of clear goals and deadlines is essential and must be understood by all concerned to make sure everyone is heading in the same direction.Improvisation is important if unfortunately things don't run as previously thought. Some emergency scenarios you can prepare, but even then it always runs a bit different and you will still have to improvise regularly.Discovering new things is a must. Within each group there are conservative, following and anticipating types. For all three, there are opportunities, but the anticipators create additional opportunities for themselves because they see the value of new developments and deploy them to their advantage. With new technology they find connection to the changing needs and desires of their audience. Many scouting clubs complemented map and compass with GPS and morse with chat sessions over the internet long ago for example.Of course all this also applies to businesses. It should be clear which organizations have the best chance of survival!I have learned a lot about various management principles and applied them in practice. Think about TQM, 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, One-Piece-Flow, Kanban, TPM, JIT. Many (im)possibilities I have seen, knowledge and experiences that I like to share and propagate to people and organizations which intend to use it.
