Fairm is a biotechnology start-up. Our goal is to contribute to a waste-free future using nature based solutions. We’re developing a scalable method to transform local biomass into a 100% natural insulation material. Our fermentation process enables us to upcycle fibrous waste streams such as straw, reed and tomato stems into bio-composites with versatile properties. Our materials resemble styrofoam and cork but are fire safe, have a lower environmental impact and are fully compostable.

Continuation of my Graduation project. Research and development of a 3D printing material used for restoration of oyster reefs in the Noordzee

In my graduation project I developed a circular 3D printing materialmade from mussel shells (a considerable residual stream in the Netherlands).The process included development of the material by testing various binder materials, characterisation of the developed material, optimizing the material's printability and designing with the material to present a showcase in which the circular and local characteristics are implemented.

I am a research assistant in the project Growing Seasons of the TU delft. In this project we developed a 3D printer that can print natural materials with mycelium as a binding agent. My specific job is planning, preparing en executing of tests with mycelium, which require accurate execution and sterility.
