I have scientific research experience including work on bacterial motion using optical microscopy and macroscopic photography; and work on thin film optics using ellipsometry and vacuum deposition systems.I have developed technical problem solving abilities by designing, building, and calibrating several custom pieces of laboratory equipment to use in my research, including syringe pumps, incubators with automated 3D imaging, and a 2D bioprinter, leading to increased experiment automation.I have practiced hardware development by designing, programming, prototyping, installing, and extensively testing an original home automation and security system composed of several wireless nodes and a hub that integrates with a popular app as well as a local wireless interface.I have demonstrated leadership and planning by assembling a small team and designing, proposing, and teaching 6 Brown University pre-college classes about DIY wireless home automation with Arduino, leading to 87 students taught, a 4.71 star course rating and a 4.58 star instructor rating.I have programming experience (Python, MATLAB, IDL, C++, Mathematica) primarily in the fields of automation and image processing/analysis, having worked on image data on both microscopic and planetary scales.I have demonstrated entrepreneurial initiative by obtaining and installing a vending machine in a Brown University makerspace, keeping it stocked with electronic components, and distributing over 800 inexpensive and convenient parts for student projects over the course of a year.I have shown ability in communication and outreach by filming and publishing over 100 advanced undergraduate physics problem videos in early 2016, leading to 800k+ views and 6500+ subscribers on Youtube.I have exercised creativity in designing and fabricating a series of over 20 brass Neovictorian-style lamps, cameras, and other projects, winning a prize at a university-wide juried art exhibition for my work.
