I recently graduated from Winston-Salem State University. I am interested in the field of school psychology and plan to attend graduate school to get a master's degree. After earning my master's I hope to be a school psychologist for elementary school students. While doing this I hope to continue my research interest in ACEs and Career Aspirations. The volunteer work I have done at Diggs-Latham Elementary School is a considerable factor in what led me to choosing school psychology as my desired career path. While volunteering there I met a lot of children with very different personalities. Some required little to no encouragement to complete their work or activity while others required constant encouragement and guidance to ensure they were completing a task correctly. These different approaches to completing a task were due to the various experiences they had had up until this point in their life. With this knowledge I applied it to my independent study and made inferences about the career paths individuals may choose based on their experiences. The findings of this study can help career counselors, academic advisors and administrators design an effective plan to help influence specific behaviors and learning outcomes for students. It will not only help individuals understand themselves but also why they are drawn towards certain career aspirations.
