As a Park Ranger on the lower Sunshine Coast, I was responsible for 9 Marine sites, 6 backcountry parks, 7 front country parks and 2 ecological reserves. I accessed these parks via boat (18ft 115hp aluminum vessel), helicopter, hiking, driving, e-bike and 4x4 roads. While working in Pemberton, I was responsible for 5 backcountry parks (including northern Garibaldi) and 2 front country parks. We accessed these parks via ski touring, hiking, snowshoeing, driving and helicopter. As a field-based position, I represent BC Parks as a contact for park visitors, stakeholders, contractors, and volunteers. Throughout my work experience with BC Parks, I have worked seasons as the solo ranger as well as seasons with a partner or team. Some of the duties I was regularly responsible for include: - Maintaining and reporting on park conditions to help develop Annual Park Management Plans and District Annual Operating Plans - Ensuring compliance with the Park Act and other applicable acts and regulations, such as the Wildfire Act and Wildlife Act - Monitoring and reporting on volunteer and contractor activities - Undertaking activities in accordance with Occupational, Health and Safety Regulations and policies - Operating a variety of telecommunication equipment including VHF radios, satellite phones, GPS units (inReach), marine radios and work cell phones - Working in extreme weather conditions and in remote and/or isolated locations, both alone and with teams - Consulting with First Nations - Interacting with people who have a wide variety of beliefs and ethnicities - Identifying, reporting, and taking appropriate action to ensure public safety - Responding to emergency situations - Providing first aid - Conducting long term ecological monitoring programs - Working with joint agencies, such as Conservation Officer Services, Department of Fisheries, Natural Resource Officers, local Search and Rescue groups, local Fire Departments and RCMP.

As a snowmaker, I worked with a team to open and maintain skiing terrain with the best possible snow that can be created. My shift was from 3pm-12am, which meant working on the ski hill at night. I would drive to each snow gun via snowmobile and ensure they were in working condition, reposition them based on current temperatures/wind, turn them on or off as well as deal with any minor mechanical issues they had. Some of the other accountabilities I had were: - Performing tasks in accordance with Industrial Health and Safety Regulations- Working closely with grooming, ski patrol, lift operations and special events departments- Operating various electrical and pressurized air and water equipment - Performing minor maintenance and repairs as required - Operate snowmobiles to access machines placed through out ski hill, in various terrains, slopes and conditions

As a kayak guide, I taught people the intro strokes and maneuverability of a kayak by taking out groups of 2 – 15 people on the Columbia River. While managing groups of all skill level on the water, I also offered an interpretative tour that further allowed me to connect with guests and offer my local knowledge of the area’s history and ecology. I ensured I provided a safe environment for guests by taking my Swiftwater Rescue Technician Lv 3 course and being sure to be alert of each person within my group while we toured the water. Beyond the kayak tours, I was also responsible for leading interpretative day hikes for groups of up to 15 people in size and managing a wide verity of other resort activities. Some of the skills I used and responsibilities I had included- Providing a safe and fun environment to teach basic skills of kayaking - Patience with guests of all ages and learning abilities- Understanding local human and natural history of the Canadian Rockies, Purcell’s and Columbia Valley- Learning and understanding booking, sales, and cash out methods - Managing small to large groups of guests in calm to hazardous conditions

While working with Brewster Travel Canada, I was delivering 2 hour long interpretive tours along Maligne Lake in Jasper, Alberta. This remote lake is accessible by one road and is located out of service, an hour from the town of Jasper. Each day we would prep the large diesel boats and have meetings to go over partners, plans and any safety concerns before getting our schedule of 3 or 4 tours. Each boat would contain 5-30 passengers which I was responsible for, either as the tour guide or the captain. Being able to offer an exciting and informative tour was paramount and I needed to have great knowledge of the area, as there were a lot of questions from people from all over the world. We were all trained my Transport Canada and did regular training. Some of the other responsibilities included: - Operating tour boats with the safety of all passengers as a priority, in accordance with Transport Canada regulations Master Limited <60 ton- Provide a personal, interpretive tour experience to ensure all visitors to Maligne Lake have an enjoyable and valued experience - Assist guests with any needs while on tour and duration at Spirit Island including assistance on/off the boat, photograph taking, answering questions and providing interpretive points - Maintain trip and mechanical logs - Operate in a 1st responder role under direction from home base to any on water incidents that you may happen upon during your tour - Interact closely with fleet maintenance team as to mechanical comprehension and effective operation of the tour boats along with reporting of any mechanical issues - Partake in daily operations and safety meetings- Effectively communicate with a diverse audience from around the world
