Hello I am Jordan and I am an early career historian! I am a PhD student at Flinders University in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences as part of the ARC project Resilient Humanitarianism: The League of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies, 1919-1991: DP190101171. My thesis is titled: ‘New Blood: The role of the League of Red Cross Societies in the development of blood transfusion services from 1946 – 1979’. It examines the intersection between humanitarianism, technology, and blood during the era of decolonisation. I hold a bachelor’s degree in International Studies, majoring in history and Asian studies, and my honours thesis concerned Australian media representations on women’s political participation in China from 1980 -1995.I have a background as a Research Assistant on an Australia Research Council-funded project, coupled with significant expertise in teaching, marking, and providing comprehensive student support.My professional journey includes collaborations with various academics, archives, and institutions, both in Australia and internationally.I am passionate about how the fields of history and humanitarianism can collaborate to improve outcomes for all people. I believe the potential of humanitarian history can influence decision making to cater to local, national and global communities. Through learning from the past we can identify areas of need, inform decision making, support diverse cultural communities and build a caring, ethical and equitable society.
