About Jordan Koehn, Phd

Jordan Koehn, PhD, is a co-founder of ForagR Medicines, an innovative biotech firm established in 2024 alongside Kevin Weeks, PhD, and Andrea Epperly, PhD. ForagR Medicines specializes in developing RNA-targeted small-molecule therapeutics designed to significantly enhance human health. As Head of Platform and Chemical Genomics, he spearheads the team executing ForagR’s drug discovery platform technology.Dedicated to addressing critical challenges in human health and disease, Koehn developed a groundbreaking transcriptome-wide RNA-ligand discovery technology during his postdoctoral work with Dr. Kevin Weeks at UNC. This technology has become a cornerstone of ForagR's drug discovery platform, enabling the high-throughput identification of function-modulating small-molecule ligands that interact with RNAs in cells.Koehn’s expertise lies in creating RNA-targeted therapeutics and drug discovery technologies, integrating small-molecule synthesis, molecular and cellular biology, RNA structural biology, and high-throughput chemical genomics. He currently leads the ForagR team in deploying these technologies to advance the development of new medicines. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from the University of Minnesota Morris, gaining hands-on research experience in asymmetric synthesis, transition-state analog synthesis targeting Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and renewable hydrocarbon fuels. These formative experiences ignited his passion for integrating chemistry and biology in impactful research. Koehn completed his PhD in Organic Chemistry at Colorado State University in 2019 under Dr. Debbie Crans, focusing on the role of electron transport lipids in Mycobacterium tuberculosis pathogenesis and establishing a framework for vanadium complexes as cancer therapeutics. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill in 2024, securing funding from the NIH and BASF Corporation to advance his research on RNA-targeted drugs and innovative crop protection agents. Recognized with multiple awards for his research and teaching, Koehn has made significant contributions to the scientific community, with 18 publications in top-tier journals.Beyond his professional pursuits, Koehn is a dedicated mentor and educator, having guided over 20 students and researchers. He actively supports community service initiatives, including nutrition education and disaster relief efforts. Now residing in Durham, North Carolina, with his wife and son, Koehn enjoys outdoor activities that reflect his Minnesota roots and love for nature.
