I’ve had experiences involving resilience, calmness, awareness, communication and leadership with qualifications as a surf life saver, a football referee and a football coach, both working and volunteering with these qualifications. Having to stay aware and concentrated in all mentioned areas. This is often followed by staying calm when reacting to situations in the case of surf lifesaving and refereeing and using logic to react to scenarios at speed appropriately. Often the reaction to scenarios involves communicating. This involves communicating risks in the case of surf life saving, rule breaks in the case of refereeing or educational points in the case of football coaching. In the case of leadership, interpersonal skills and self responsibility I was apart of Hobsonville Point Secondary Schools student council and sport council, leading the organisation of that years leavers hoodies and ensuring design students, leadership students and the whole student population had a say in the design and that the project was on schedule and had a planned timeline as no teachers were involved whatsoever. For sport council we looked to have weekly events organised and communicated around the school to promote participation in exercise, having weekly discussions on this. I was also one of two representative from my high school who was selected for the harbour sport youth council which would come together to discuss how to promote inclusion and participation in exercise and how to overcome barriers to participation, with each school presenting their ideas, followed by discussions.
