I am a current graduate student at Trent University in the thesis based M.Sc. in Bioenvironmental Monitoring and Assessment (BEMA) program. My work focuses on the three species of Ambystoma salamanders found on Pelee Island, and aims to answer the question of how does the genetic composition of the population shift between life stages? In order to answer this question I spent the last two summers living and doing field work on Pelee Island, ON. studying the Ambystoma salamanders, through conducting larval and cover-board surveys, as well as monitoring pitfall traps for the emergence of juveniles. Along with the field work, my project also includes extensive genetic analysis on the tissue samples collected on Pelee Island. I received an undergraduate degree in Biology from Trent University, which included a Research Thesis on eDNA with Dr. Linda Rutledge of Trent University, as well as a placement with the Benthic Macro-invertebrate team at U-Links Centre for Community Based Research Projects in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada. As a result of my studies I am well versed in various methods of statistical analysis, can effectively use the program R, have received OBBN training, can identify various species of birds in Ontario and can confidently identify nearly all species of reptiles and amphibians found in Ontario as well. I can also conduct amphibian cover-board and pitfall surveys, and have received extensive training in the safe injection of Visible Implant Elastomer (VIE) into Ambystoma salamanders, from juveniles to adults. I am passionate about the environment, and wish to use all the knowledge I have gained through my school career to aid in protecting our natural resources.
