I was employed by Giant Eagle's Get-Go station just south of Ohio State's campus. Most of these stations sell gas, but ours was only a convenience store. Usually I worked in the kitchen, making food, checking temperatures, and cleaning equipment. Occasionally I would work at the cash register.

I began this experience doing marketing for a student-run painting business I would manage in the summer. This meant door-to-door sales and posting flyers, mainly. If someone wanted their house painted, I would do an estimate for the cost of the job. I would then buy the paint and supplies from the local Sherwin-Williams store and my crew and I would paint their house over the summer. I had to perform interviews and hire my own crew. I ended up painting one house by myself to ensure we stayed under budget, although it took much longer. Most importantly, from this experience I learned about some of the challenges of running a small business.
