I developed a strong research background while majoring in International Relations and Sociology at Drake University and was recognized with research assistant positions, academic awards, and publications before graduating. One significant point of pride is my six month immersive linguistic sabbatical of travelling solo in Brazil from the mouth of the Amazon, around Salvador da Bahia, and down to the Iguazu Falls on the Brazil-Argentina border. Intercultural communication and experiences have always been a priority for me and my passion for language-learning and travel are the natural result of that framework. After two years of evening Brazilian Portuguese courses, I packed up my grammar textbooks, and invested in six months of solo travel around Brazil. Through disciplined language study, immersion, and constant practice, I attained a high level of Brazilian Portuguese in terms of verbal expression, writing capacity, and comprehension. The concrete skills I garnered along the way include long-term budgeting and travel coordination, negotiation, intercultural communication, adaptability, risk assessment, and creative problem-solving to name a few. Ours is a world of change and the ability to evolve with it is essential to an organization's success and sustainability. After taking the time and space to cultivate such skills abroad, I am eager to delve back into the professional world, join forces with a new team, and invest in a new project.
