As Managing Director I empower excellence in every facet of MGA. While managing the operations of the office and supervising various aspects of the staff, I ensure that all functions of the company are highly performing in rigorous alignment with our core values and principles of People + Planet.I contribute to strategic decision-making for the business and its operations, in continual engagement with senior staff in order to synthetize the various needs and issues into recommendations that inform a clear strategic business plan. With 20+ years of architectural experience I integrate into the studio and promote design excellence through quality management. I provide technical expertise to ensure quality control across projects as well as building science, code and design mentorship throughout the studios. My supervision of the administrative and design team initiatives provides consistency in the tools, systems we use, and the performance of the staff. This leadership is rooted in our trust-based integrated team culture.

MGA is a mid-sized design office with a broad portfolio of projects ranging from tiny art installations to comprehensive developments, locally and internationally. The projects we work on are ones that speak to our aligned values with our clients, and we design with passion and meaning to embrace the client's and communities' goals. In every building we design we find the unique stories that make the project special and celebrate them within the building and beyond. I enjoy approaching each project with the resolve to design beautifully to the smallest details. I continue to strive to be an effective leader and humble mentor for my office full of fantastic creative people. Together we work continually on pushing boundaries in highly sustainable construction technologies and innovative design.

DBR is a not for profit Institute dedicated to teaching the design and construction of socially, culturally and environmentally relevant student-led installations. DBR also offers a research platform with a focus on systemic change in building for climate, environment, disaster and global shelter needs.

At MGB I was a lead team member for many of the firm's projects. Because of my vast hands-on and project management experience I was also a sounding board and advisor to the office, for building envelope details, building code interpretations, and project administration issues. I was also the usual final reviewer for contract documentation. I enjoyed being entrusted to solve problems that arose during the phases of design. The entire office, from juniors to principals, would come to me daily to have me weight in on their projects. During my time at MGB Istrived to further develop my knowledge of current building technology innovations and sustainable design practises, and to encourage people to embrace these principals and develop truly thoughtful architectural solutions.

My first job in an architecture office, I learned under a group of architects and interior designers that truly focus on the details. The unofficial mission at PAI was that there is nothing more important than developing and fully resolving an idea. With a large portfolio of arts and other non-profit clients, care was always taken to ensure that the projects were completed on budget and with the clients' needs and desires held in the highest regard. My responsibility was often to design the small details, something I felt honoured to do. From feature stairs to balconies, main entries to millwork, glazing to exterior wall details, I had the opportunity to design special elements that thousands of people would see and touch.
