SpaceRake is commercializing MIT’s miniaturized laser communication technology. We’re building miniaturized, SDA-interoperable lasercom user terminals and human-portable laser ground terminals to connect mobile ground units and satellites of any size to the emerging LEO lasercom networks.At SpaceRake, my responsibilities include leading technology strategy and product development to ensure product market fit for an impactful networking framework for government and commercial customers alike. To date, we have successfully obtained funding from the US DoD (Space Dev't Agency), and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Bascom Ventures is a private venture fund for UW-Madison alumni and friends of the community to access high-quality, diversified venture portfolios in early to growth-stage companies, many with a UW-Madison alumni connection.Our investors own a portfolio of ~20-30 venture investments diversified by stage, sector, and geography. Led several teams of 5-15 engineers and scientists to successful completion of programs ranging from ~$1M to ~$12M dollars. Specialization in Photonics and Aerospace Engineering

Left Ball Aerospace to focus on development of novel astronomical instrument: Frequency comb-based, spectrally resolved long baseline interferometer.Results: 1) Awarded funding as PI for a Swiss National Science Foundation Spark Grant to study astronomical applications of frequency comb lasers. 2) Designed first of its kind turn-key optical frequency comb system for use in data center data transmission applications.

Mission architect and systems engineer for numerous vehicles, missions, and multi-spacecraft constellation architecture studies (including JPSS-1/NOAA-20 and the James Webb Space Telescope). Principal Investigator and founder of the Ultrafast Applications Laboratory, which collaborates with universities, national labs, and other companies to bring ultrafast physics and optical frequency comb applications to aerospace.Results: Contributed to multiple successful missions (JPSS, JWST, others), established unique laboratory facility, filed four patents, and released several publications.

Principal Investigator for a cross-disciplinary study combining breakthroughs in laser physics and single-photon detection to investigate an entirely new optical technique for exoplanet imaging. Result: Completed study of first of its kind technology which served as motivation for $9M Air Force Office of Scientific Research MURI program, which cited this report in the call for proposals.

Introduced to interfacing with federal regulatory agencies and complex system design.

Winning team of a national design competition through NASA Johnson Space Center. We built a two story inflatable habitat module to support the future of manned space exploration.Result: NASA is still using the habitat we delivered more than a decade ago as part of the NASA Deep Space Habitat (DSH) prototype and then the Human Exploration Research Analog (HERA) habitat.
