Working on the Mariner A hook up, covering all basis of my trade from the early stages of the hook up where a majority of the work was installing the containment from heavy duty ladder rack to cable tray to the stage we are now which is inspecting and testing the installation. Involved in the glanding and terminating stages and the cable splicing stages. Working with a small squad doing inspections and testing.Competent in understanding and adhering to plans and diagrams. Subcontracted to an American firm Abec where I was involved in instrumentation hook-ups on various plant and machinery. Involved with a team that done testing and inspecting on site where we filled out and signed off on all related paperwork for the job. Decommissioning sections of the platform and installing temporary supplies for fire & gas, telecoms, lighting etc. required for temporary accommodation. Involved from surveying to construction to final inspection, testing and commissioning, raised permits to cover the various activities and generated relevant paperwork for the completion stages. Foreman at various stages of the project to oversee the interface installation on the Viking satellites to accommodate the Ensco 92 drill rig during decommissioning of wells on the satellite platforms. Upgrading gas compressors, A and B, re-installing, glanding and terminating instrument cables on the compressors. Upgrading supplies from switchgear to compressors, marshalling cabinets and local JBs. On completion was part of a team inspecting and testing the installation, completed ITRs and relevant completion certificates.

Upgrading the old panels and installing new relay panels for the nitrous injection facility. Part of a team involved with inspection and testing of the new equipment. Experience gained in try-party walk downs and filling out construction completion certificates.

Upgrading switchgear for the main fire pumps including power and instrument cables. The team was responsible to the RPE for inspection and testing of the new installation, produced relevant ITRs and completion certificates.

Taking a year out from paid employment I studied for and gained an HNC in electrical engineering. I feel this shows I have the motivation and drive to enhance my knowledge of electrical plant and equipment.

Working as part of a small de-commissioning team and re-installing selected Ex equipment. A major part of the job was inspecting and testing the new installations. Equipment and drives included pumps and motors on chemical injection skids and new line of sight detectors / fire detection systems.

Conoco Phillips Jasmine Platform Assisting the commissioning technicians commissioning various drives and equipment. Installing trace heating supplies to distribution panels at various locations on the platform, power and instrument cables to the choke valves adjacent to the wells. Responsible for glanding, terminating and testing the installation again assisting the commissioning technicians

First project offshore in the Danish sector on the ENSCO 71. Part of a team to hook up and test the HVAC system.Liaising with the rigging department as the heaters and associated panels were mounted some three to four metres above deck level. On completion of cables pulled, glanded and terminated I was involved with pre-commissioning of the HVAC system then seconded to assist the rig electrician to commission the system.

On site at St Fergus with Scottish and Southern Energy, involved with the upgrade of the emissions reduction project, mainly involved with the glanding, terminating and testing of the fire and gas installation. Working on several Ex and IS certified equipment including wiring and terminating the fire and gas panels. Assisting the QA/QC inspection team inspecting and testing ATEX certified equipment working from schematic drawings and assisting the commissioning team when required.

During my apprenticeship, was involved in a number of industrial projects. Including fabricating and installing electrical ladder rack, trunking, cable tray and conduit. Gaining experience of wiring various electrical circuits, wiring of control panels, marshalling cabinets and distribution boards. In my final year worked alongside Forth’s lead inspection and test technician who trained me on inspecting and testing old and new installed equipment.
