A venture back into the world of sales focusing on getting people the vehicles they need. The attention to detail needed while performing audits and knowledge of food safety acquired from my previous position with the Department of Agriculture, transferring to a new division was a perfect match. My main focus is collecting produce samples from federal sites, farms, packinghouses and supermarkets for microbiological and chemical residue testing. With a territory ranging from Manatee County to Palm Beach county, there is plenty of travel involved and keeping track of in season crops for hundreds of farmers from coast to coast.After a collection, I generate reports that are sent to the associated lab and then update the database with sample results and any pertaining raw data collected. Applying skills used in previous sales positions, a secondary task is establishing connections with new farmers and merchants to better protect consumers from any potential contamination.With this position, I was afforded the opportunity to work from home and base my schedule around the needs of different labs.

As a Fruit and Vegetable Inspector my objective was to inspect the produce from packing houses before it reached distribution centers for sales to the public. All produce was inspected according to guidelines set by the USDA and state statutes.Eventually I progressed to conducting ‘Good Agricultural Practice’ audits for packinghouses, farms, and repack operations that were focused on following food safety laws.This position offered me a foot-in-the-door with the State of Florida and a first-hand look at where our food comes from.

With management experience on my side courtesy of GNC, I landed a job at The Fresh Market. My main duties included maintaining accurate inventory counts, building product displays, and collecting products for daily charitable donations.Aside from those previously mentioned tasks, I also assisted in 2 store openings by helping arrange shelving resets and training new hires.

I actually kind of fell into this position while shopping for sports supplements. When the current manager was attempting to explain the difference of 2 proteins to a customer, I reinforced the manager's explanation and added additional input regarding the aforementioned protein to assist in the sale.After completing my purchase the manager informed me of an opening in the store and I interviewed the following day. With a vast knowledge of many products and the ability to answer many customer questions regarding health, fitness, and nutrition, I was promoted to Assistant Manager within 3 weeks. GNC provided an opportunity to sharpen my product knowledge in a growing industry and was a chance to improve my face-to-face sales skills for the first time since working at Carrabbas.

Plain and simple, this was a sales position in the form of telemarketing. My primary objective was to make contact with potential candidates for job openings in the Healthcare industry and match them up with jobs for the respective client and employee.As you can see from the 4 month employment, this position and I were not a match. However, I did learn some important life skills and business etiquette while working for this company:1) Be direct with words when speaking to strangers2) If someone isn't interested, respect their time and your own. Move on3) Ask for help before it's too late.In retrospect, my time with HSS was brief but it was introduction to world of outside sales and I'm thankful for the opportunity.
