The placement consisted of working within BIW at MINI Plant Oxford. During my time, I gained experience of working within 3 different roles, each role is listed below with tasks associated with the role and some project examples provided. PSP – Production Specialist Planner The role involved implementing customer protection via care points and Poka Yoke devices into the production system, for F5X models. Required creation of Red Widows along with accompanying test cards on PPZ. Use of VPS principles for Cost Down (CoDo) exercises such as chalk circles and line trials as part of continuous improvement involving analysis of robot and operator utilisation, cycle takt time and quality stability in the manufacturing process. Initially taking the F56 through prototype build phases through to SOP and then supporting the F55 parallel build process through to SOP whilst maintaining F56 production stability.Bottleneck Analysis Conducting Bottleneck analysis on a sub-assembly line which was causing starvation to the main line. Involved data gathering of cycle time, work content for analysis and understanding of ABB robot programming, allowing for identification of cycle time improvements. Investigation focused on F56 but improvement conducted in regards to robot collision zones for multiple derivatives.Overall Equipment Effectiveness Project involved working with line builders and maintenance to improve the technical availability of the Paint Bar facility within BIW. Issues identified through systematic problem solving, resulting in modifications to the sequencing of clamps and die blocks, along with changes to the DC tooling programs which provided a large reduction of downtime.

QS – Quality SpecialistRole involved checking in-line measurement and FMK reports to spot trends and take action before the quality of the vehicle reduced, helping to reduce the costs by preventing poor quality. Investigating quality issues and taking the necessary action to rectify said issues. Perceptron In-line measurement: Setting up the tolerances and alarms for the F56 and F55 and modifying then in accordance with the required quality for each progressive build stage through to SOPFMK reports – Reading metrology reports and creating corrective positioning of Studs for maintenance to implement. Launch Quality Assurance Planner Working to prevent any hybrid vehicles being built during F56 Series and F55 prototype build. Role focused on better part identification, improving the late change and rework process. Involved putting checks in place that logistic principles such as First-In-First-Out (FIFO) were being carried out along with organising auditing of material for pre prediction build phases so that the correct engineering level (AI) and production run (TK) parts were present along with ensuring any rework to the parts had been carried out. Involved the use of Catia to check upcoming engineering changes.
