I decided to make a career change after I became intrigued by a prominent project that Findorff was working on in Milwaukee as well as to pursue a better work-life balance than what ATC could offer. I was able to join Findorff as a Project Engineer Co-op, and gained some awesome experience learning from some great mentors. This experience confirmed the decision to switch careers. I was rated in one of the U.S. Air Force’s most difficult and prestigious specialties, Air Traffic Control. It definitely did not come easily, but through commitment and grit, I was able to pass the training gauntlet and earn my badge. Training consisted of a demanding 4 month Technical School at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Upon graduation, I was assigned to the Mountain Home AFB, Idaho Radar Approach Control (RAPCON), where I completed approximately 12 months of grueling On-the-Job Training, which included multiple simulations a day, constant studying and testing, as well as live traffic. At Mountain Home AFB, I primarily controlled F-15E Strike Eagles for the U.S. as well as the Singaporean Air Force which was stationed there. Other military installations I certified at are Volk Field in Wisconsin as well as McEntire Joint National Guard Base in South Carolina.
