Working as part of a large group of Physicists, Engineers and Data Scientists to establish a low-cost sample return mission alongside an Australian/Japanese collaboration under the name LifeSprings Mars. As a lead in the power team I developed a tool to quickly and easily determine sizes for solar panels to be used on two space faring vehicles and one terrestrial. This allowed the team to iterate on ideas quickly and refine down our framework in an efficient timeframe. Using these findings I also simulated their effectiveness under different temperatures and efficiencies using Fusion360. A trade-off to determine the effectiveness of each power generation option was created and included Solar Panels, Radio-Isotope Thermal Generators, Fusion Cells and Batteries etc. This was to determine that the configuration for this mission was not only the most effective choice but also the most cost effective and easiest to achieve successfully. Our findings were presented to the LifeSprings Mars team on a monthly basis to receive feedback and cater our research to their intended design. This allowed us to lay some groundwork for their eventual mission in the coming years.
