Worked on Microbiome project in the Forensic Science Department at VCU. Developed and validated 18S rRNA gene analysis Bash script developed in accordance with the Mothur MiSeq SOP, originally designed for 16S rRNA sequence data. Shadow and assist on wet lab procedures involving the extraction, PCR amplification, and purification of bacterial DNA to identify unknown bodily fluids. Aid in computational biology as well; utilizing programs such as Python, Mothur, and R for data analysis.Secondary project consisted of developing a python script to determine the conservation of amino acids between SARS-CoV_2 isolates from different geographical regions to investigate genetic diversity for the benefit of predicting the evolution of a viral genome to be able to take more effective control measures
