Firstly, I am responsible for facilitating the learning experience of the pupils. This could be any subject that's part of the national curriculum. Alongside the classroom teacher, I assist with many areas to help the learners become proficient in a number of key areas that will allow them to move on to further education, employment and/or training. I have also had teaching experience Other areas of my role include providing pastoral support to the learners, engaging the children in school by running a weekly 'engagement day' (e.g. trampoline park, talks from outside agencies about drugs/alcohol/sex, raising money for local charities) and giving the learners extra support on their option subjects such as Physical Education, Art, Public Services and/or Child Devlopment. Cefn Hengoed is also the centre for Secondary School in Traveller Education in Swansea and our team engage with the traveller community and facilitate the children coming to school to teach a bespoke curriculum in line with their culture and beliefs.
