About Jordanne Godwin

Currently, I am attending Appalachian State University, where I am obtaining a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a certificate degree in Expressive Art Therapy. I am also completing my internship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center at the Outpatient Comprehensive Cancer Center with the Cancer Patient Support Program. I provide support to patients, caregivers, and survivors. I lead a support group for cancer patients as well. I have volunteered at Appalachian/Brian Estates helping the residents improve their quality of life by offering daily activities that they could participate in. I also worked for many years as a camp counselor at Ogburn Stables Horse Camp, where I worked with ages 5-15, teaching them to ride horses and overcome their fears by working with the animals. I will be graduating in August and will be looking for careers in the mental health field. I would love to work with adolescents.Specialties: certificate in Expressive Art Therapy.

    Intern
Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Aug 2009 - Present
Currently, I am completing my internship at the Outpatient Comprehensive Cancer Center, where I work specifically in the Cancer Patient Support Services department. I am responsible for conducting New Patient Orientations, in which I meet with new patients, their family members, and other people they have brought with them, and go over the services that we provide here. I also have developed a Cancer Patient Support Group for patients, caregivers and loved ones. It is a weekly open group that deals with issues cancer patients are facing and ways that they can cope with cancer, as well as giving caregivers support in this stressful time. I also do individual supportive counseling for patients and caregivers.
  • Appalachian/Brian Estates
    Volunteer
    Appalachian/Brian Estates Aug 2008 - Dec 2008
At Appalachian/Brian Estates, I was able to assist the Activities Director with daily activities that the residents could participate in. I helped set up the activities, assist in helping the residents participate in them, and process it as a group when we were done. I was able to make meaningful connections with the residents, and enjoyed talking with them about their lives, issues they were having, and ways they could enjoy life at an older age. I also was in charge of filing and keeping the Activities Directors' office organized. I also was able to choose activities after I had been there for a while and led them on my own at times.
  • Concentra
    Patient Processor
    Concentra Jun 2005 - Dec 2006
As a patient processor, I was responsible for entering patient demographics, injury/illness information, insurance information, and medical history into the computer. I then would give this information to the physician so that they could provide medical care to the patients. I was also responsible for scheduling the patients doctor and physical therapy appointments into the system, and reminding of them daily. I often would have to talk to insurance companies and/or the patients place of employment over the phone about patients and fax them medical records, chain of custody forms, and other forms that would be needed in a workers compensation claim. I also was in charge of keeping medical records filed and up to date.
  • Ogburn Stables
    Camp Counselor
    Ogburn Stables Jun 2001 - Jun 2004
At the Ogburn Stables summer camp, I worked as a camp counselor assisting children ages 5-15. I helped them learn how to ride, handle, and care for horses. I had to help them overcome their fears of the animals, as well as being at a camp away from their homes and parents. It was a very rewarding experience working with youth and encouraging them in so many different ways.
