Took a work hiatus to recover from burnout. I started a hobby/side-business photography business. I learned Rust and worked on a photography/weather planning app.

Developed a drop-in replacement for the analytics service in a multi-tenant environment(1000+) deployed in a high-availability configuration across Kubernetes.• Achieved the project’s goals of improving performance by 3-4x and cost-saving ofover 50% over the old analytics service.• Collaborated on the filter compiler responsible for generating SQL filtering criteria,including subqueries, used in over 40 reports and data ingestion. Extending it by writing aflexible optimization framework against its abstract syntax tree, which improvedquery performance an order of magnitude.• Fine-tuned reports SQL queries for Clickhouse.• Pushed for observability and traceability best practices such as request-ids both within the service and outside the service.• Implemented metric collection for Prometheus such as report timings and failures.

Worked towards improving the data pipeline and backend for a text nudging software solution to remind students in various ways such as financial aid reminders.• Developed a data pipeline Proof of Concept utilizing Akka Streams, Redis and Kafka.• Explored Clickhouse as a data analytics tool.• Profiled primary application reducing memory and threads using DataDog stabilizing the service.

Development, maintenance and enhancement of 3 Scala applications that ingests 50-200million spam emails daily to be tagged and filtered into near-real-time custom datafeeds into Redis, S3, SFTP, Email or ElasticSearch for internal and external customers.• Vastly improved the matching engine by providing easier to use and more efficientoperators such as multi-string search.• Allowed dynamic loading of efficient filters with lists of 10s to 100s of thousands of match criteria such as IP addresses or domains.• Rewrote S3 output feed component utilizing Alpakka S3 to use multipart uploads ofminute files without buffering to disk in a highly parallel and efficient mannersupporting 800+ feeds across the cluster including several full feeds.• Rearchitected key components in the move to AWS to make the applicationsnear-realtime using gRPC while migrating away from a private data center whichutilized an HDFS polling mechanism including backpressure preventing data loss.• Utilized MongoDB as a time series database to store statistics determining acustomer’s payout. This included writing several roll-up jobs using Spark, Scalascripts, queries for the UI, and public API.• Encouraged idiomatic Scala while adopting best practices through the use ofScalafmt, Scalafix, Scalac options, and through code reviews.• Developed a proof-of-concept matching engine using ZIO effects framework as a independent component.• Improved monitoring and alerting such as gRPC throughput and filtering telemetry.

Developed and maintained 4 middle tier RESTful applications to facilitate IP Video Services for the Roku, iOS, Android, Xbox, and Samsung TV clients. Our external application services 150k unique customers daily. Primary functionality includes: curating on-now/on-next and grid guides enriched with parental controls, entitlements, and show metadata; stream authorization and curation based on in and out of home experience, device type and available streams; and managing remote DVR capabilities.• Transformed, combined and cached data from 20+ backend services, and removed 4+ legacy backends.• Rewrote, Improved and expanded core library functionality including abstractions for Memcached, Redis, HTTP client and JSON libraries.• Performed performance profiling: reduced thread count from 700+ to 200, and reduced memory usage and allocations.• Implemented testing infrastructure using load testing using a CI job, Gor, and Twitter's Diffy tool.• Implemented a AMQP to Kafka bridge.Other Technologies Used: Lift, MongoDB, Finagle, Netty/Ning, Json4s, Postgres, Kafka, AMQP

Developing a set-top box emulator controller used internally for load, regression, and performance testing against a specialized server called the APmax.
