About Jordan Ngo
One of my favourite memories I had in my undergraduate degree was being able to direct the first ever fashion and dance showcase at my university. When I first approached the Student Affairs department at my university, I was turned away with a “no” citing the lack of funding that would be required to put this together. That “no” I received inspired me to seek alternative opportunities to put the show together, where I collaborated with other clubs and associations on campus, and created partnerships with the local businesses in the city. In the end, the team that I lead were able to sellout the show, but more importantly, leave a legacy for future students to showcase their talents in the arts. Starting my career as an Academic Advisor, I advised a caseload of over 500 students who were all faced with a failed year standing. By implementing strategic intervention advising and activities, I successfully helped over 76% of my caseload return to their studies and complete their undergraduate degree. With over five years of academic advising under my belt, it continues to be a very rewarding and fulfilling career in supporting students reach their destination to graduation.I hit the jackpot when I transitioned into my role at the University of British Columbia. I was reminded of my time in my undergraduate degree where I able to be the Director. At my time at UBC, I’ve been focusing a lot of my interests into leading high-profile projects that particularly supports the training and development of the staff in the Faculty of Arts. In all of my experiences so far, I celebrate my ability to be visionary and being think outside of the box to launch and implement new projects that create an impact for change.
