Yale Climate and Energy Institute (YCEI) Postodoctoral Fellow in Electrical EngineeringThe YCEI is primarily concerned with the future directions of energy production and consumption and societal and ecological adaptation to climate change. As part of this group, my research has focused on a promising design of high efficiency solar cell, which marries the low platform cost of silicon and the high performance of III-V compound semiconductors. The integration of III-V materials and silicon is an exciting area of current research also relating to the future of CMOS devices, as traditional Si-CMOS scaling reaches new fundamental limits. Our work focuses on metamorphic growth, defect management and characterization, and novel device design.

Research: I focused on III-nitride epitaxy, semiconductor characterization, and optoelectronic device physics. My thesis, "Growth and Physics of III-N Based Solar Cells by Ammonia Molecular Beam Epitaxy" summarized my work in developing both high-performance InGaN-based PV devices by the relatively unique growth method of Ammonia MBE, and developing an understanding of the micro-scale physics of our devices (multi-quantum well) and limits to increasing their performance. Because of similarity in structure, the approach employed also applies to devices such as LEDs and lasers.Highlights:• Developed novel growth method for high performance optoelectronic (Ga,In)N-based vertical devices using NH3-based Molecular Beam Epitaxy. • Developed and implemented high performing InGaN-based photovoltaic devices• Determined carrier transport mechanisms in InGaN/GaN multiple quantum well structures• First demonstration of Zener tunnel diodes by an NH3-based growth method of nitride semiconductors• Improved performance of c-plane visible light emitting diodes (LEDs) by NH3-MBETeaching:Materials 101: Materials Science for Engineers (Summer '08)Upper-division introduction to materials science for chemical and mechanical engineering undergraduates.

Designed and implemented experimental platform to characterize RF-inductive soldering technique for silicon solar cells including thermal imaging.
