Responsibilities of this job include being a core part of the delivery of both university Open Days and Applicant Visit Days.Greet parents and prospective students and answer any queries that they may have, including queries as to the course, the content, the university and the life in Birmingham.Be a friendly face to the university and School of Computer ScienceDeliver tours to small and large groups and give information during the tours. Tours may include the facilities of the Computer Science building or the university campus.

Internship objective: develop a portable workshop that can be delivered in schools, with the goal of sparking an early interest in to Computer Science within young students. The workshop should allow the students to create their own smart phone application.The workshop was implemented using AppInventor and two companion applications that I created. One to detect faces and overlay the detected regions on a live camera preview and the second to compile a series of still images in to an MP4 video.The facial detection companion application utilised Snapdragon’s SDK for facial detection, with a fallback to Google’s native facial detection APIs for phones which do not support the Snapdragon SDK.Faces were returned from the companion application by using the bounds of rectangles, which allowed the students of the workshop to loop over the list of rectangles to place objects on to the faces within the photograph.
