Having worked to major social platforms like Tuenti, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat, I’ve seen firsthand the trade-offs between growth and safety. We all know that this significantly impacts our society, especially children and adolescents, but all of us are affected. Joey aims to challenge this short sided norm, creating a social network that grows while providing a positive impact in society. Our first target are pre-adolescents.

I collaborated with a team of 30 talented individuals to develop a top-notch platform for buying and selling motorbikes. I fostered a productive and enjoyable work environment for our engineers to pursue their passion as valued team members.The engineering team consisted of individuals with varying skills, such as product designers, IT support, software engineering, machine learning, and developers. This diverse group was able to create products that catered to the needs of all stakeholders.As a member of the C-Level team, I played an important role in designing the company's strategy to achieve the board's mandate. My responsibilities extended beyond engineering as I also oversaw the purchase and sales department. I focused on developing innovative strategies that would lead to a positive EBITDA and contribute to the company's success.Participating in Mundimoto has been a fantastic adventure, and I am grateful for the opportunity. Growing the team to include 30 talented individuals was a unique experience, and I have learned so much from working alongside them. I have had the chance to meet exceptional teammates from various teams, including the C-Level team I was part of, investors, and fellow company founders. I couldn't feel luckier.

I became a part of Mundimoto's engineering team when it was just a small department of five people. I worked with Jacob Cañadas, who was CTO then, to transform the company into a tech startup. During this journey, we expanded our team to include 30 individuals with diverse skill sets, such as product designers, IT support, infrastructure engineers, software engineers, machine learning experts, and developers.We organized the team in verticals and worked on fostering a culture of working towards the product goals, and we didn't divide the team based on the individual's skill sets. We designed the technological stack from zero, working with Python on the backend and building Javascript through React on the front end. We moved our infrastructure to AWS and deployed our services with Kubernetes and frontend with Next. The result couldn't have been better, our product flourished, and we quickly deployed a modernized website for sales and a new set of tools for the buyers to scale their operations 5x. We digitalized all the company's operations and created a data lake and a system of events using Confluent to give visibility over the main KPIs of the company.

I helped the platform team set the direction for the composition framework Snapchat uses in their main UI experiences (The story style navigation).When I arrived, the code was rotten, and development had become slow and prone to mistakes thatcould cause bugs. I analyzed the issues our framework users were having and proposed improvements in the system. We delivered a prototype that is now used as the north star for the framework.I also helped to coach the team to improve the culture. Changing code is not a lasting improvement without changing the approach to development that led to a rotten codebase.

Backend lead at Facebook working on the blockchain project. I designed the architecture of the product backend and led the team to build the prototype following this design.

I was the first engineer in the business presence Instagram team. Together we built a new platform for business at Instagram. The business or influencers could convert to a business account which gave them access to new tools like advertising, insights, CTA in their profiles...From the conception to deploying to all users, that was a fantastic journey that required navigating the benefits and risks to deploy to hundreds of millions of users a new set of tools in a complex ecosystem like Instagram is.The project was highly successful, and by the time I left, a new business ecosystem was established, benefiting the whole Instagram social network generating much money for both the company and the business that participated in this experience.

Lead the development of a medical app that helps people with migraines understand the triggers that caused them. My focus in this project was to build the iOS app that would serve as a diary for the users' day-to-day interactions with possible triggers and the recording of migraines.Once we get enough data, we could use statistics to correlate the triggers with the user migraines, helping them avoid other instances in the future.

Tuenti was the most used social network in Spain (even in front of Facebook). At Tuenti, I was working as an iOS engineer building experiences for private messaging. We built a feature on sharing short videos privately.
