As the only Senior developer in the team with the main experiences that theyneeded, I was tasked with creating UI components using WPF for users to input the radar's IPaddress and port number, developing a parser to interpret the binary radar data according to theprotocol provided by Syntonics. I was part of a project where we needed to build a recommendation engine for asocial networking app. We were dealing with a large amount of data, which made this both a dataengineering and a machine learning challenge. My task was to architect the end-to-end ML pipeline,ensuring we could efficiently collect user data, process it for model training, and serve real-timepredictions to users. I began by architecting the data pipeline.For data ingestion, I chose Kafka because it handles real-time data streams like a pro. We needed tocapture everything users did on the app—clicks, likes, comments, shares—and stream this data forfurther processing. Kafka’s ability to handle large-scale event streams and provide message durabilitywas perfect for our use case. For the machine learning models, we went with Scikit-learn fortraditional models, but as we moved into deep learning territory, I shifted to TensorFlow because of itsefficiency in running neural networks at scale. Once the model was trained, I deployed it using AWSSageMaker for managing the ML lifecycle. SageMaker was a solid choice because it made it easy totrain, tune, and deploy models without needing to worry about provisioning infrastructure.As a Lead developer on this greenfield project, I established the Github repository, conductedresearch to determine the best setup, created a documentation plan, set up the backend corestructure, and ensured the client's desired ideas and tools were incorporated. I also activelyparticipated in front-end and back-end development, provided guidance, assigned tasks, conductedcode reviews, and managed daily stand-up meetings to ensure progress alignment with the projecttimeline.
